Tack Coating

This process involves the scarifying of the existing bitumen macadam surfacing, the reshaping and compaction of the resulting planings, the addition of a retread bitumen emulsion into the recycled layer and the application of a surface dressed finish.

SURFACE STABILISATION

Surface stabilisation is generally specified for large surfacing areas which are susceptible to heavy loadings and flexible ground conditions.

The process involves the additional of a stabilisation bitumen emulsion into a prepared sub base stone. The bitumen emulsion is harrowed in a number of applications through the sub base stone and usually two coats of surface dressing are applied as a final finish.

The resultant surfacing performs well with any ground movement and resists any deflective cracking which may be associated with a less flexible surfacing option.
